Prince of Thieves
This is our medium size workhorse spoon than can represent any kind of baitfish common to a salmon’s appetite.
It is dressed with a back and belly vinyl to mimic herring well. The color schemes can be natural or very vivid depending on the fish’s mood of the day.
We also make the Prince of Thieves in two distinct pacific cod color renditions. IT is offered in both a pale, natural version, and a more vibrant version to really pop in darker or murkier water. Juvenile pacific cod are a very quiet, but very important food source for salmon, especially king, or chinook salmon. We feel no other lure maker puts out a spoon dressing specifically to mimic this baitfish.
Of course it is also offered in our “coho popo” (cop car) version.
I would have a few of these along for your starting spoon. They catch salmon well, and if after examining the stomach contents of the first few fish you catch, you can always attempt getting closer to the active baitfish they are foraging on by choosing our other representations offered.
Our Lil Lance would be a size down for smaller fish found in active feeding fish’s bellies. If the fish are hitting on full sized sandlance, we suggest using our Sand Lancelot in the same color scheme as the original strike on the Prince of Thieves.
You might also move up to the Excalibur If larger baitfish such as medium to large herring or perhaps juvenile pacific cod are what they are after. We have colors that mimic both herring schemes and pacific cod schemes in all of our spoons.
*We welcome any and all feedback! If you try one of these lures and love the color combo, size, we would love to hear back from you! Any and all of these lures can be custom ordered.
